PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said Monday the illegal assembly planned for July 9 to purportedly raise election issues appears to have a hidden agenda.
He said the development was evident of late and could jeopardise peace and lead to chaos in the country.
"The police have been instructed to discharge their duty professionally. The police have said that no permit will be issued for any gathering on July 9.
"This means that any gathering on July 9 is illegal and the participants will have to face the law," he told reporters after opening the 2nd General Police and Special Equipment Exhibition and Conference Asia (GPEC Asia 2011) at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), here.
Also present were Home Ministry secretary-general Tan Sri Mahmood Adam and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar. Hishammuddin said the law would have to be enforced because there would be chaos if the gathering was infused with politics, racial issues and certain ideologies.
He said the police had arrested 30 individuals throughout the country over the planned assembly.
"The police have acted in Penang and Johor. Arrests have been made and investigations must be carried out," he said.
He also said that there were plans to stage certain operations and roadshows in Shah Alam, Johor and Penang, and advised the people not to be worried as the police would ensure public order and security. - Bernama
